The US Special Forces helped train the South Vietnamese Special Forces of the so called Luc Luong Dac Biet (LLDB). These soldiers remained outside the ARVN chain of command. Instead the LLDB's groups existed as operational components within the Presidential Liaison Office (PLO) and were accountable only to President Diem.
